A second dinner topper โ this one based on cooked chicken and sweet potato, which is particularly good for dogs with sensitive stomachs or recovering from illness. Chicken and rice is the classic veterinary bland diet; this version swaps rice for sweet potato for more fibre and vitamins.
โ ๏ธ Before you start: Follow the 10% treat rule โ treats should not exceed 10% of your dog's daily calories. Introduce new foods gradually. Never add salt, garlic, onion, xylitol, grapes, raisins, chocolate, macadamia nuts, or alcohol. If your dog has allergies, a health condition, or is on medication, check with your vet first.
Ingredients
- 200g cooked chicken breast โ shredded, no skin, no seasoning
- 1 medium sweet potato โ baked or boiled, mashed
- ยฝ cup (75g) cooked spinach โ well drained and chopped (or substitute plain broccoli)
- 1 tsp salmon oil โ optional, stir in after cooking

Cook the chicken breast by poaching in plain water for 15โ20 minutes. Shred with two forks once cool. No salt, no oil, no seasoning of any kind.
2

3

Particularly good for sensitive stomachs
Chicken and sweet potato is one of the most commonly recommended elimination diet combinations by veterinary dermatologists for dogs with suspected food sensitivities. Sweet potato is highly digestible, low in allergens, and high in dietary fibre. If your dog regularly eats grass and seems to have a sensitive stomach, this topper is a gentle option.
