A dinner topper rather than a standalone meal โ a small spoonful over regular kibble makes dinner considerably more exciting and adds protein and omega-3s. Uses lean minced beef and cooked brown rice. Simple, nutritious, and most dogs immediately eat around the kibble to get to this part first.
โ ๏ธ Before you start: Follow the 10% treat rule โ treats should not exceed 10% of your dog's daily calories. Introduce new foods gradually. Never add salt, garlic, onion, xylitol, grapes, raisins, chocolate, macadamia nuts, or alcohol. If your dog has allergies, a health condition, or is on medication, check with your vet first.

2
Add vegetables
Add the grated carrot and peas. Stir and cook for another 3โ4 minutes until the carrot softens slightly.
3
Mix in rice
Remove from heat and stir in the cooked brown rice and salmon oil if using. Allow to cool completely.
4
Portion and store
Divide into portions based on your dog's size โ about 1โ2 tablespoons per 10kg of body weight as a topper. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze in portions.
๐
Why a topper rather than a full meal
Home-cooked food alone rarely meets all of a dog's nutritional requirements without careful formulation. As a topper over nutritionally complete commercial food, you get the palatability and freshness benefit without the risk of nutritional gaps. Always adjust the amount of commercial food downward to account for the extra calories.
